“Every chocolate tells a tale”
Chocolate is a preparation of Theobroma cacao seeds. Cacao has been cultivated by many cultures for at least three millennia in Meso America. Evidences show that chocolate beverage dominated society since the 1900 BC.
Chocolate has become of the most wanted and admired food types and flavours in the world. Cocoa originated in America. Today western Africa produces almost two –thirds of the world’s cocoa, with Ivory Coast growing almost half of it.
Pure, unsweetened chocolate contains primarily cocoa solids and cocoa butter in varying proportions. Most of the chocolate consumed today is in the form of sweet chocolate, combining chocolate with sugar. Milk chocolate is sweet chocolate that additionally contains milk powder or condensed milk. White chocolate contains cocoa butter, sugar, milk but no cocoa solid whereas dark chocolate has been promoted for unproven health benefits.
White chocolate, although similar in texture to that of milk and dark chocolate, does not contain ant cocoa solids because of this; many countries do not consider it as chocolate at all.
Dark chocolate is produced by adding fat and sugar to the coca mixture.
A 100 gm serving of milk chocolate supplies 540 calories. It is 59% carbohydrates (52% as sugar and 3% as dietary fibre) 30% fat and 8% protein. Approximately 65% of the fat in milk chocolate is saturated, composed mainly of palmitic acid and stearic acid which unsaturated fat is oleic acid.
Chocolate and cocoa are under preliminary research to determine if consumption affects the risk of certain cardiovascular diseases. Chocolate may be a factor of heartfelt in some people because one of its constituents, the throbromine, may affect the sphictu muscle, hence permitting stomach acidic contents.
Chocolate is associated with festival such as Easter, when moulded chocolate rabbits and eggs are traditionally given in Christian communities, and Hanukkah, when chocolate coins are given in Jewish communities. Chocolate hearts and chocolate in heart- shaped boxes are popular on Valentine’s Day and are often presented along with flowers and a greeting card. Chocolate is an acceptable gift on other holidays and on occasions such as birthdays.
